Current Event update
As many of you have noticed, rollcall.com requires a subscription to view its articles. I apoligize for overlooking this problem. If you have not already complteted your current event from another source, I would like for you to use the website politico.com instead of rollcall.
Thanks!

Over Thanksgiving you are expected to propse a budget for yourself and stick to that budget. Make it realistic and try to stay with it over the next six days. I will collect this the Monday you return from break. If you have questions about it over break please email me. I will get back to you as soon as possible, but it may be a day or so before I have a chance to read email.

And the Winner is.....
7th period!
In the closest school competition in HHS history, 7th period won the WtP competition by 1 point! The final tally was 497-496 (I counted three times to be sure).
I am pleased with how all of you performed and we will talk about state finals next week sometime.
Over the weekend, please put some thought to whether or not you want to be involved in the WtP state competition. This goes for both class periods. I want 6th period to think about it as well since there may be a chance we will need some of you.
See you Monday!
Mr. Swihart
p.s. you may comment on this post, but no trash talking allowed...

We the People Sample video
Watch this video of a WtP competition (at the National Finals). As you watch you need to keep in mind the following questions and bring your answers to class. I will check for a grade. DO NOT post your answers in the comments section.
1) What did you learn from this that you did not already know?
2) What most surprised you about the hearing you watched?
3) What will you need to do to be able to preform like this?
4) Any other thoughts or questions?

Please keep all posts appropriate and relevant to issues we are or might be covering in class.
I look forward to hearing and seeing what you have to share with us!

Nashville's English-Only Bill in the New York Times
The New York Times has picked up the story on the English Only Bill. Does a good job of presenting both sides of the issue. What do you think after reading this?
